Catering in midtown Toronto

Two very different kinds of midtown event

The first is the office order. Midtown's employers sit in mid-rise buildings around Yonge and Eglinton, Yonge and St. Clair and Davisville, with smaller teams than the Financial District and simpler buildings. Many have a street-level entrance, a shared passenger elevator and a property manager who is happy with a drop-off at the front desk, which makes midtown one of the easier areas for a same-week office lunch.

The second is the private event at home. Rosedale, Moore Park, Forest Hill, Leaside, Lawrence Park and Davisville have a lot of detached and semi-detached houses where people host 20–60 guests for a birthday, an anniversary or a holiday party. Around Yonge and Eglinton the same kind of event happens in condo suites and party rooms. The food can be identical; the planning is not.

Catering a party in a midtown house

Older midtown houses are beautiful to host in and awkward to cater. Before we quote, we ask about:

• Parking and unloading. Many streets are permit-parking only, and driveways are often narrow or shared. The City of Toronto sells temporary parking permits online for some permit areas; if yours qualifies, we will ask you to arrange one for our vehicle during the event, or we plan a quick unload and park elsewhere.
• The kitchen. A home oven holds two or three hotel pans at most. For a plated dinner for 24 we bring hot-holding equipment and plan courses that finish on the stovetop or in the oven in short batches.
• Stairs and flow. Front steps, narrow halls and a basement bar change how we move trays, where the dish return goes and how many staff you need.
• Neighbours. Summer parties on the back deck carry sound. Toronto's noise bylaw applies to amplified music at night, so we keep staff clean-up quiet and plan the late courses indoors if needed.

For staffing, a passed-canapé party typically needs roughly one server for every 20 guests plus someone in the kitchen, and a plated dinner closer to one server per 10–12 guests. Our event staffing page explains each role.

Condo party rooms around Yonge and Eglinton

The towers around Yonge and Eglinton have added thousands of condo units over the past decade, and many of them have party rooms with a warming kitchen. Those rooms come with rules we have to follow: booking windows (often evening blocks ending by 11 p.m.), a refundable deposit, restrictions on open flame and sometimes on outside staff, and a service elevator that must be reserved separately from the room. Condo move and delivery elevators are commonly booked in two-to-four-hour windows, so get the elevator confirmed in writing before you confirm with us.

Party rooms usually suit a cocktail party or a grazing table better than a hot buffet: fewer trips up and down, less power, and easier clean-up before the building's cut-off time.

Getting around midtown

Line 5 Eglinton opened in February 2026 after years of construction, which has made Eglinton Avenue far easier to work on than it was during the build. Guests can now reach Yonge and Eglinton from the east and west by transit, which matters for an office event where half the team does not drive.

For our vehicles, Yonge Street and Mount Pleasant are slow at rush hour, Bayview through the valley and the Don Valley Parkway are the usual routes in from the east, and Avenue Road carries northbound traffic from downtown. School drop-off and pick-up around the neighbourhood's many schools also slow residential streets around 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., which we account for when planning a breakfast delivery or an afternoon setup.

Events we see most in midtown

• Milestone birthdays and anniversaries at home, often 30–60 guests with passed food and one hot station. See milestone celebrations.

Dietary requests at home events

Family events mix generations and diets. A typical midtown dinner party list includes a guest who is gluten-free, a vegan teenager and someone avoiding shellfish. We plan these as full plates, not afterthoughts, and mark passed items on the tray card so servers can answer questions accurately. If a guest has a serious allergy, tell us early so we can explain how the dish is prepared in our kitchen and what we can and cannot guarantee.
