Catering in Etobicoke

Etobicoke runs from lakeside condo towers to leafy streets with deep backyards to business parks beside Pearson. Each part needs a different plan, and the drive between them can take longer than the drive from downtown.

Three Etobicokes, three kinds of event

South Etobicoke and the lakeshore. Humber Bay Shores, Mimico, New Toronto and Long Branch have filled with condo towers and townhouses. Events here are mostly condo party-room gatherings, small office lunches and summer parties in the older houses closer to Lake Shore Boulevard.

Central Etobicoke. The Kingsway, Humber Valley Village, Princess-Rosethorn, Islington Village and Markland Wood have large lots, mature trees and generous backyards. This is where we plan tented garden parties, graduation celebrations, milestone birthdays and backyard weddings.

North Etobicoke and the airport corridor. Around Highway 427, Dixon Road, Carlingview Drive and Martin Grove, business parks and industrial buildings sit next to the airport. Catering here is weekday and practical: meeting lunches, training days, and staff appreciation meals for warehouses and logistics operations.

Backyard events in the Kingsway and Humber Valley

A big backyard makes a great venue, but a backyard is not a kitchen. For 50–120 guests on a lawn we usually plan:

  • A catering prep area out of sight, either in a garage or under a small separate tent, with tables, a handwash station and lighting.
  • Power that is not your kitchen outlets. Warmers, coffee urns, a tent's lights and a DJ on one household circuit will trip a breaker. A small generator or a dedicated circuit is often part of the plan.
  • Ground conditions. Mature trees mean roots, slopes and soft lawns. Tent rental companies typically request utility locates through Ontario One Call before driving stakes, which takes time, so book the tent early.
  • Neighbours and parking. Quiet residential streets fill quickly. We park staff vehicles away from the house after unloading and keep the clean-up quiet late at night.

Alcohol has its own rules at home. Under AGCO rules, liquor cannot be sold at a residence, so a home party is a no-sale event where the host supplies the drinks. Our backyard and tented events guide has the full checklist, including a wet-weather plan.

Condo events at Humber Bay Shores

Humber Bay Shores has dense towers served by a small number of roads, and the intersection of Park Lawn Road and Lake Shore Boulevard is a well-known bottleneck at rush hour and on summer weekends when the waterfront parks are busy. For a 6 p.m. party-room event we plan to arrive in the mid-afternoon rather than fight traffic at 5.

Condo party rooms here follow the same pattern as elsewhere in Toronto: separate bookings for the room and the service elevator, deposits, and restrictions on open flame and cooking. A grazing table or passed canapés suit these rooms best, because they need little power and pack out quickly before the building's cut-off time. Read more in catering in private homes and condos.

Airport corridor offices and industrial sites

The business parks along the 427 and Dixon Road serve companies that need to be close to Pearson: logistics, aviation services, distribution and regional offices. Many buildings have surface parking and a reception desk, which makes a drop-off lunch simple once the driver is there. The hard part is the drive: the 401, 427 and 409 interchange near the airport is one of the most complex in the region, and a collision there can add 30 minutes.

For industrial and warehouse sites, tell us about visitor sign-in, safety vest requirements and where deliveries are accepted. For multi-shift staff lunches we pack individual meals that can be refrigerated for later shifts. Hotels near the airport typically have their own in-house catering, so outside food is usually not allowed in their meeting rooms; check with the hotel first.

Getting around Etobicoke

The Gardiner Expressway and QEW meet at the Humber River, which makes the lakeshore side quick from downtown outside rush hour and slow during it. North-south travel is the real constraint: Islington, Kipling and the 427 carry most of the traffic between the lake and the airport. Line 2 Bloor-Danforth serves the Kingsway and Islington areas, so guests coming from downtown to a central Etobicoke home can use the subway.

Pricing and planning

Canapé receptions start from $38 per person, grazing tables from $28, family-style dinners from $78 and office hot lunches from $32, before HST. Staffed events start at 40 guests with staff at $38 per hour and a 18% service charge; wedding bookings need 6 months notice. See pricing for details.

Nearby areas: Mississauga, downtown Toronto and North York. Services: corporate catering, weddings, private events.

Backyard power check

Before a backyard event, tell us what else will be plugged in: tent lighting, heaters, music, a bar fridge. Food warmers and coffee urns draw a lot, and one tripped breaker during dinner service is avoidable.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can you cater a backyard party in the Kingsway or Humber Valley?

Yes. We plan a prep area, power, handwashing and staffing around your yard, and coordinate with your tent and rental companies on timing.

Can you serve alcohol at a backyard party in Etobicoke?

Liquor cannot be sold at a residence under AGCO rules, so at home the host supplies drinks for guests without charge. Tell us your drink plans early so we can plan glassware, ice and staffing around them.

Do you cater condo party rooms at Humber Bay Shores?

Yes, within the building's rules. Send the party room and elevator booking times and any cooking restrictions, and we will plan food that fits the room.

Do you deliver office lunches near Pearson airport?

Yes, to offices and business parks in the airport corridor. Hotels there usually require their own catering, so check with the hotel before booking an outside caterer.

How far ahead should I book a summer backyard event?

Summer Saturdays fill first. Book as early as you have a date, and at least 6 months ahead for a wedding, so tents and rentals can be reserved too.
