Catering in Brampton
In Brampton the typical catering question is not "can you feed 40 people" but "can you feed 350 people, three nights in a row, with a fully separate vegetarian menu". We plan Brampton events around guest counts, halls and the sequence of a multi-day celebration.
Why Brampton events are planned differently
Brampton is one of the largest South Asian communities in Canada. The 2021 Census reported 52.4% of residents as South Asian, and Punjabi is the most common mother tongue after English. That is not a marketing angle; it is simply what the event calendar looks like. Weddings are frequently multi-day, guest lists of 300–500 are common for receptions, and families expect the food to be right for grandparents as well as for the younger guests who want a late-night chaat station.
It also means planning for real dietary diversity inside one family. A single wedding can include guests who are strictly vegetarian, guests who eat halal meat only, guests who avoid beef, and guests who eat everything. We plan those as separate, labelled menus from the first draft. Tell us your guest count early so we can confirm capacity and staffing for your dates before anything else.
Planning a multi-day wedding
Each event in a South Asian wedding has a different mood, venue and food format, and planning them together saves money and confusion:
- Mehndi or maiyan is often at home, in a garage or backyard tent, or a smaller hall, with 60–150 guests. Street-food style stations, snacks and a simple dinner work well, and the food needs to hold while guests with hennaed hands eat slowly.
- Sangeet or jaggo is louder and later, with dancing. Passed snacks early, a hot buffet around 9 p.m., and chai late.
- The ceremony may be at a gurdwara, mandir or mosque, where food is often provided by the place of worship itself or follows its rules strictly. At a gurdwara, for example, langar is vegetarian and prepared by the community. Ask the religious venue before planning any outside food.
- The reception is usually in a banquet hall, with appetizers served during photos, a large dinner buffet or stations, and a dessert and chai counter.
For three events with the same guests, we vary the menu so nobody eats the same curry three nights running, and we share rentals and staffing plans across the weekend where venues allow. See our South Asian wedding catering page and South Asian menus.
Vegetarian and halal separation
For many families, vegetarian food touching a meat serving spoon is not a small mistake. At large Brampton events we keep separation visible and simple:
- Vegetarian and non-vegetarian food on separate buffet lines or clearly separated sections, each with its own utensils and signage.
- Vegetarian dishes prepared and packed separately, and transported in their own labelled containers.
- Servers briefed on every dish, including whether it contains egg, onion or garlic, which matters for some guests.
- Halal meat labelled, with the halal standard confirmed in writing before the event. Read more on halal catering.
Tell us about any Jain guests or other specific practices when you book, so we can design suitable dishes instead of improvising on the day.
Banquet halls in Brampton
Brampton has many large banquet halls, particularly around Highway 50, Airport Road, Steeles Avenue and Queen Street East, built for 300–1,000 guests. They differ mainly in how they handle catering. Some have in-house kitchens and only allow outside caterers with a fee per plate. Some allow outside caterers freely and provide a kitchen. Some provide tables, linens and staff but not food. Before signing with a hall, ask:
- Is outside catering allowed, and is there a plate, kitchen or cake-cutting fee?
- Can the caterer use the kitchen, including ovens and walk-in fridge space?
- What time can we load in, and what time must the hall be empty?
- Who holds the liquor licence? If the hall is licensed, it usually controls the bar; if not, the host needs an AGCO Special Occasion Permit, applied for at least 10 days ahead for a private event like a wedding reception.
Our banquet and community hall guide covers buffet flow for 400 guests, which is mostly about the number of lines, not the number of dishes.
Home events and backyard tents
Brampton houses often host the smaller pre-wedding events and family parties: a tent in the backyard, the garage converted into a prep area, relatives' cars filling the street. For these we plan power carefully (warmers, lights and a DJ on residential circuits), bring handwashing stations, and park staff vehicles away from the house to leave space for guests. The City of Brampton regulates parking on residential streets, so check local rules for overnight and long-duration parking. See backyard and tented events.
Timing, travel and pricing
Highways 410, 401 and 407 bring us into Brampton; the 410 is congested at rush hour and on Friday afternoons, when many wedding weekends begin. Brampton is also a major logistics hub, and truck traffic on Steeles, Airport Road and Highway 50 slows weekday deliveries. We schedule load-in for Friday evening events before the afternoon peak.
Wedding buffets start from $68 per person and food stations from $72, before HST, with a 18% service charge. Book at least 6 months ahead; peak summer and fall weekends go first. See pricing and our wedding catering cost guide.
Nearby: Mississauga, Vaughan and Etobicoke. Services: weddings, corporate catering, private events.
Confirm the ceremony venue's food rules first
Gurdwaras, mandirs and mosques often provide food themselves or have strict rules about what enters the building. Check before planning any outside catering for the ceremony day.

Frequently asked
Can you cater a 400-guest wedding reception in Brampton?
Tell us the date and guest count first and we will confirm availability and staffing before quoting. Large receptions need multiple buffet lines and should be booked at least 6 months ahead.
Do you keep vegetarian food separate from meat?
Yes. Vegetarian dishes are prepared, packed and served separately, with their own utensils, signage and briefed servers.
Can you cater a mehndi or sangeet at home?
Yes. We plan a prep area, power, handwashing and staffing for home and backyard tent events, and can vary the menu from the other wedding events.
Can an outside caterer work at a Brampton banquet hall?
Many halls allow it, often with a plate or kitchen fee. Confirm the hall's policy, kitchen access and end time before booking.
Who handles alcohol at a Brampton wedding reception?
If the hall is licensed, it usually runs the bar. Otherwise the host applies for an AGCO Special Occasion Permit at least 10 days before a private reception.
Can you provide halal meat for the reception?
Yes, we cater halal menus. Tell us which halal standard your guests follow and we will confirm in writing what applies.
