Catering in Richmond Hill
Richmond Hill is a city of hosts. Much of what we plan here is entertaining at home: formal dinners, open houses and seasonal gatherings for 30 to 100 guests, where the host wants to be in the living room, not the kitchen.
Home entertaining is the main event
Richmond Hill's neighbourhoods, from Bayview Hill and South Richvale to Mill Pond, Westbrook and Jefferson, are mostly detached houses with large living and dining rooms, and many families prefer to celebrate at home rather than rent a hall. That changes the catering brief. The questions are less about loading docks and more about the house: how many guests the main floor holds comfortably, whether food will be served from the kitchen island or a dining table, and where coats, bags and shoes go.
For a home gathering of 40–80 guests we typically plan a staffed buffet or food stations in the dining room, passed items in the living areas, a separate dessert and tea table, and a clean-up team working quietly in the kitchen. The full-service catering page explains what staff handle, and our private homes guide walks through the house room by room.
A calendar of cultural celebrations
In the 2021 Census, Chinese was the most frequently reported ethnic origin in Richmond Hill (28.5% of residents) and Iranian the second (10.1%), and the city has large Russian, Italian, Jewish and South Asian communities as well. Home celebrations follow those calendars:
- Nowruz, the Persian New Year at the spring equinox in March, and Yalda Night in December bring family and friends together at home, often with a table the family prepares and additional dishes, staff and rentals brought in.
- Lunar New Year in January or February and the Mid-Autumn Festival in September are times for large family dinners and gatherings.
- Christmas, Hanukkah, Diwali and Eid gatherings fill the late-year and holiday calendar.
We do not claim to cook every family's traditional dishes. When a family is preparing its own festive table, we can add complementary Middle Eastern or Mediterranean mains, salads and desserts, supply staff to serve and clear, and handle rentals, so the hosts can spend the evening with their guests.
Late dinners and long evenings
Many home gatherings in Richmond Hill start in the early evening with tea, fruit and sweets, with dinner served later, sometimes after 9 p.m. That is perfectly workable, but it has food safety consequences. Hot food must stay at safe temperatures the whole time, so we cook or finish dishes in timed batches instead of holding everything from 6 p.m., and we set clear windows for cold platters. Food-safety guidance generally limits perishable food to about two hours outside temperature control, so a long open house needs replenishment, not one big spread.
If your gathering will run four hours or more, tell us the real schedule, including when you expect dinner. It changes staffing and the equipment we bring.
Oak Ridges and the north end
Around Yonge Street and King Road, Oak Ridges sits on the Oak Ridges Moraine around Lake Wilcox, with larger lots, wooded properties and some homes on private roads. For backyard parties and tented events here we check:
- Access for delivery vehicles on narrow or private roads, and where rental trucks can unload.
- Ground conditions on sloped or wooded lots, which affect tent placement and buffet lines.
- Water and waste arrangements for properties on wells or septic systems.
- Evening temperatures outdoors, which can make hot food and patio heaters worthwhile even in June.
See backyard and tented events for the full outdoor checklist.
Offices and business parks
Richmond Hill's employment areas include the Beaver Creek business park around Highway 7 and Leslie Street and the office and industrial areas along Highway 404 near 16th Avenue and Major Mackenzie Drive, home to technology, engineering, healthcare and professional firms. These are practical buildings with surface parking and reception desks, well suited to drop-off office lunches and breakfast meetings. The Yonge and Highway 7 area around Richmond Hill Centre is also growing as a transit hub with Viva rapid bus service and GO connections.
Getting there and pricing
Yonge Street, Bayview Avenue and Highway 404 are the main routes north. Yonge is slow through the village core at rush hour, and the 404 northbound backs up in the late afternoon. For evening home events we arrive in the mid-afternoon to set up before traffic peaks and before guests arrive.
Food stations start from $72 per person, canapés from $38, family-style dinners from $78 and grazing tables from $28, before HST. Staffed events start at 40 guests with staff at $38 per hour and a 18% service charge. See pricing.
Nearby: Markham, Vaughan and North York. Services: private events, weddings, corporate catering.
Tell us when dinner will really be served
If guests arrive at 7 and dinner is at 9:30, we plan batches and staff shifts around 9:30. A realistic schedule keeps hot food hot and cold food safe.
Questions
Frequently asked
Can you cater a Nowruz or Yalda gathering at home?
Yes. If your family is preparing traditional dishes, we can add complementary mains, salads and desserts, plus staff, rentals and clean-up.
Can you provide staff only for a party at my house?
Ask us about event staffing for serving and clearing. We will confirm what staff can handle when food comes from several sources, including how it is kept at safe temperatures.
How do you handle a long open house with a late dinner?
We serve in timed batches and replenish platters rather than leaving food out for hours, since perishable food should not sit outside temperature control for more than about two hours.
Do you cater tented parties in Oak Ridges?
Yes. We check vehicle access, ground conditions, water and power first, and coordinate with your tent and rental companies.
Do you deliver office lunches near Highway 7 and Leslie?
Yes, from 15 guests with 48 hours notice. Delivery is $45.
